Ottawa, Sep 2 (Prensa Latina) The Canadian economy entered recession for the second time in the last six years, announced today the agency Statistics Canada.
In the second quarter of the year Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country suffered a contraction of 0.1 percent after a decline of 0.2 percent in the first three months, which, according to experts, indicates when an economy enters recessive process.
The Canadian recession represents a sharp drop in expenditure and business investment in the second quarter in the oil, gas and mining sectors, as well as a slow progress in manufacturing, construction and utilities.
The government of Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, does not recognize that the economy is in recession, because is facing general elections on October 19 and does not wish to affect its image.
