indiaNew Delhi, Sep 8 (Prensa Latina) At least 42 people died and 1,8 million were affected by torrential rains and floods, which have been hitting Assam state for two weeks, official sources revealed.
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said in a statement that more than 1,1 million hectares of farmland are under water.

Rains and floods damaged about 1,800 villages spread over 20 of the 27 state districts, it said.

The worst-hit places are Dhubri, with 450,000 people affected, and Marigaon, with 260,000, it added.

According to NDTV, in Dhubri, bordering Bangladesh, some 400 isolated communities are reported.

The town was flooded a few days ago. We're facing a lot of problems, the government did not visit us or distribute food, said to NDTV Luther Rahman, a 25-year-old young man who live in Nelochia village.

Our operations are hindered because there are water everywhere, however, we are trying to provide assistance as much as possible, told NDTV Ajai Singh, deputy inspector general of the Border Security Force.

Authorities warned about flooding of the Brahmaputra River and several of its tributaries, such as Burhidehing, Dhansiri, Jia Bharali and Puthimari.

This is the second wave of rains that hit Assam state so far this year. In June, 20 people died and more than 730,000 were affected by floodwaters.
