Venezuelan Opposition Leader Convicted for Violence

Caracas, Sethp 11 (Prensa Latina) The Supreme Court of Venezuela condemned opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez to 13 years and nine months in prison, for the violent facts that began in February 2014 in the capital, which left 43 people dead and hundreds injured.
As a result of that process, on Thursday were also sentenced Christian Holdack (10 years and six months) and Demian Martin and Angel Gonzalez, to four years and six months each.
López was found guilty of the offenses of public incitement, conspiracy and determinative in fires and damage in the context of the Plan La Salida (Plan The Exit), which was intended to overthrow the government of Nicolás Maduro by undemocratic means.
On February 12,2014, the People's Will party leader and former presidential candidate, along with other opposition leaders, staged a call to the streets, seeking to create the necessary atmosphere to force the 'exit' from power of President Maduro.
The escalation of violence generated transformed these protests in terrorism which targeted several public institutions.
López also participated actively in the coup perpetrated on April 11, 2002 against former president Hugo Chávez.
