Forum Celac-China on Science and Technology Concludes in Ecuador

Quito, Sep 17 (Prensa Latina) With the presentation of results of each of the five theme tables working in the event, the first forum Celac-China on science, technology and innovation will conclude here today.
The meeting attended by representatives of the 33 member states of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac) and a wide Chinese delegation headed by minister of Science and Technology, Wang Gang, started on Wednesday at the venue of the Union of South American Nations in the outskirts of Quito.
According to Ecuadorian authorities, the aim of the forum is to establish an effective dialogue with Beijing, in relation to knowledge management, science, technology and innovation.
The topics discussed in each of the tables dealt with ecosystems of innovation, transfer of technology,
biodiversity and development, science and development, green science and development based on technology and science, technology and innovation for business success.
China and Celac are complementary forces that attract and need each other, asserted Vicepresident of Ecuador, Jorge Glas, at the opening of the event, after
calling on Latin American and Caribbean nations to assimilate the experience of the Asian country and achieve agreements and concrete projects.
On his part, Rene Ramirez, who leads the Secretary of High Education, Science, Technology and Innovation of Ecuador, affirmed work is being carried out at subregional and regional level in a common agenda.
According to the official, among the topics open to debate by Celac are included lines of research that strengthen cooperation and be
translated into concrete facts, as the creation of an editorial, indexing systems for publications qand a prize for science and technology that promotes research in Latin American and Caribbean countries.
Regarding China, he said that diverse topics of multilateral cooperation to develop projects that potentiate both hemispheric blocs.
Parallel to the first forum Celac-China of Science, Technology and Innovation ending this Thursday, 25 enterprises of the Asian nation exhibit their products in the Unasur headquarters.
The exhibition will continue open until tomorrow, with free access to the public.
