staffan de misturaBeirut, Sep 17 (Prensa Latina) The United Nations (UN) special envoy to Syria, Staffan de Mistura, today left for the Arab country in order to find negotiated solutions to the armed conflict, amid the refugee crisis that is affecting Lebanon more and more.
Lebanese Foreign ministry sources told Prensa Latina that De Mistura, who arrived in Beirut last night, continued his trip to Syria this morning, while diplomats from the neighboring country said it is possible that President Bashar Al-Assas meets with the UN envoy.

The man appointed by the UN secretary general, Ban Ki-moon, for trying to find a solution to the over four-year-old war in Syria, plans to discuss with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Al-Muallem "ideas" that could open a way towards the stop of hostilities.

Talks will focus on a 60-page document that MisturaâÖs assistant, Ramzy Ezzedine Ramzy, handed Damascus a month ago with points of view from the government, the civil society, and alleged representatives of armed opposition groups.

Apart from discussing safety and protection, counterterrorism, political and legal issues and reconstruction, the UN mediator's strategy is chiefly aimed at achieving a ceasefire and eliminate terrorist groups, in order to stop the country's destruction and the exodus of people.

De MisturaâÖs Thursday visit is his sixth to Damascus and the second in two weeks, after meeting with Al-Assad last August 31.

Within the mediation strategy, the Italian-Swedish diplomat, covering security, reconstruction and political issues, the most pressing is to achieve a ceasefire and eliminating terrorist groups to stop the devastation of the country and the exodus of people, said a Lebanese analyst.
