Germans Worried About Immigration, Government Loses Popularity

Berlin, Oct 2 (Prensa Latina) The social climate towards refugees in Germany could deteriorate, all the while the federal government suffers a drop in popularity, revealed today surveys by the television.
51 percent of Germans say to fear the mass immigration of refugees from Arab countries and Central Asia, according to the survey of the public television channel, ARD.
In the latest survey on the subject in September, 38 percent of respondents rejected immigration.
However, 39 percent of respondents believe that refugees are a threat to the prosperity of the Germans, while a majority of 59 percent do not share that view.
In general, there is more skepticism about mass immigration, since only 35 percent see it as a positive development for the country, 10 points less compared to the previous month.
The change in the social climate towards refugees also affects apparently the image of the federal government and its representatives.
The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) of Chancellor Angela Merkel, lost two percentage points since September, reaching 40 percent.
The Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) maintains its position, with 24 percent, while the opposition, the Left Party and the Greens, achieve around 10 percent each.
According to the poll, out of the 1,501 respondents, 48 percent rate as "good" the government work, which means a fall of five points.
