Kabul, Oct 5 (Prensa Latina) Doctors Without Borders (MSF) announced today that it will abandon operations in the northern Afghan city of Kunduz, after a NATO bombing, which destroyed almost completely the hospital where they worked.
According to statements quoted in this capital, the MSF's spokesman, Tim Shenk, said it is impossible to continue activities there, although due to the circumstances, health care is required more than ever.
The international organization called war crime the air raid carried out last Saturday by the North Atlantic military alliance with the apparent aim of liquidating the Taliban movement.
A group of insurgents took Kunduz since Monday until last Thursday, and although government forces retook the town, at some points there were still operations and resistance carried out.
MSF asked for an independent organization to conduct a full and transparent investigation into the event, parallel to the one conducted by NATO and the Afghan authorities.
The international organization of doctors emphasized that no confrontation took place in the hospital before, during and after the air strike.
The bombing killed 12 members of MSF and 10 patients, including three children, and dozens of people were injured.
American forces in Afghanistan claim that the attack was aimed at insurgents firing on US officials advising Afghan security troops in the city of Kunduz.
