Five Provinces of Angola Register 10,000 Cases of Mental Illness

enfermedades mentalesLuanda, Oct 11 (Prensa Latina) Five Angolan provinces, part of the Comprehensive Mental Health Network, reported about 10,100 cases in the first half of the year, announced the coordinator of the National Public Health Bureau Massoxi Vigario.
Those territories were Luanda, Huíla, Huambo, Benguela, Malanje and Cabinda, explained Vigario to journalists during a short briefing after the first session of the 4th Conference allusive to the World Day of Mental Health onn October 10.

According to the expert, the highest prevalence was reported in male patients, while praising the level of awareness in the population about these diseases, which has allowed the early intervention of doctors.

It is an advantage (that the patient comes in early stages of the disease), because it allows recovery and prevents it from going to chronic or more serious stages.

When referring to the possible cure, the official stated that it depends on the type, state of the patient, the environment in which it develops, as well as following the proper treatment and have family support.

The coordinator pointed out that the labor and social insertion stimulates the patient's recovery or rehabilitation.
